Snorkeling Near Owen Sound
There is a little out of the way spot quite near Owen Sound if you want to try snorkeling. The water here is not very deep, about 5 feet in most of the area. If you follow the directions out to the wreck the water becomes about 15 feet deep. This is an easy swim from shore maybe 75 feet out. The water is almost always cold so be prepared for that, and usually quite clear. The wreck is the most interesting but you will also find railway spikes and odds and ends on the bottom.
Directions:
When you get to Owen Sound take 10th street west to 2nd ave west turn north.
2nd ave becomes Eddie sargent Pkwy then becomes 3rd Ave west. Shortly after Kelso Beach park turn right on 26th Str West. Take this a short block to 2nd Ave. west and turn north. There is a small parking area to the right.
The snorkeling site is to the right, accessible from the stone beach. The wreck is almost level with the end of the spit at the right hand side. Have fun and respect the property owners.
